Mr.Tilak, political head of the LTTE in Trincomalee district participated as the chief guest at an event held at the office of the TRO. Speaking at the event Mr. Tilak said, "racial suppression still prevails in Trincomalee district. The illegal construction of a Buddhist shrine in a Tamil village Vilankulam despite protests amply proves the suppression of Tamil rights in Trincomalee," said .

Mr.Tilak further said, "we have made representations to all parties concerned about the illegal construction of a Buddhist Vihare in a Tamil village Vilankulam. However no action has been taken to stop the work. It would create tension in the district if the authorities concerned allowed the illegal construction to continue."

He said non-governmental organization should work with mutual understanding in order to avoid duplication of development works in affected villages. "It is a crime to misuse money given to non-governmental organization for assisting rehabilitation and provide relief to the affected," said Mr.Tilak

Mr.Tilak said, "some NGOS have funds but no projects to implement. Some other NGOs have projects but no funds to implement. This should be taken into consideration. The Consortium of NGOs in Trincomalee should take steps to assist NGOs in this regard."

Tamil National Alliance national list parliamentarian Mr.K.Thurairatnasingham said the urgent needs of the people who have been affected by the war should be looked into promptly. "TRO is playing a vital role in this regard when the war was on and after the ceasefire came into force", he said.

Attorney-at-Law Mr.K.Sivapalan said the government promised to appoint a commission to probe the violence on October 11 in which three Tamils were killed and forty-nine others were wounded. Up to now no such commission has been appointed. Even the northeast provincial council and the Sri Lanka Monitoring Committee have failed to act promptly on the hartal day when Tamils were attacked, said Mr. Sivapalan.

Mr. Mathavarajah, Trincomalee district co-ordinating secretary of the TRO presided the event.
