Eight Tamil scholars to be conferred with Governor's Award

Eight Tamil scholars are to be conferred with Governor's Award at the three-day North East Tamil Literary Festival of the Provincial Ministry of Education scheduled to begin on December 28 in Trincomalee, education sources said.

Professor S.Sivasegaram, Professor S. Mounaguru, Professor S.Sivasamy, Natya exponent Vel Anandan, Professor M.A.Nuhuman, Writer Sitpi Saravanapavan, Broadcaster George Chandrasekaran and Pashaiyoor Devadasan, folk dancer are to be conferred with Governor Awards on Monday December 30, ministry sources said.

The three day Tamil Literary Festival is scheduled to commence Saturday morning with a cultural pageant that will start from the office of the Provincial Ministry of Education and progress to the venue of the festival, St.Joseph's' College auditorium, sources said.

The morning sessions of the festival will be allocated for a symposium on " the history of Tamil journalism in Sri Lanka." Several academics are scheduled to present their papers on the subject followed by discussions, sources said.
