SL military attempts to rout out Tamil shop owners in Ampaa'rai village

[TamilNet, Saturday, 09 June 2018, 19:04 GMT]
The occupying SL Army stationed at Veappaiyadi in Annamalai 02 GS area of Naavithan-ve’li division in Ampaa’rai district has started to operate a grocery shop at the military base competing with the native shop owners who are dependent on 900 families as customers in the area, local Tamil business owners complain. The people are now urging Tamil politicians to de-militarise their village.

The SL Army stopped the grocery four months ago as the shop owners complained about their businesses getting affected by the competition.

However, the SL military has now resumed the business and is determined to rout out the shops owned by the villagers, they said.

The SL military base at Veappaiyadi is located in 7 acres of lands, and the military is using the building and the areas belonging to the Irrigation Department.

A training base is also situated at the camp.
