Student killed in grenade attack in Eravur

A nineteen year old student, Mr. Perinpam Sangarapillai, was killed Monday night around 9.00 PM by unknown attackers who lobbed a grenade at him at Savukkady on Tharavari Road in Eravur. Mr. Perinpam was returning home in bicycle after attending a computer course.

The motive of the killers is not known, Police said. Perinpam was not involved in any political or armed activities according to his parents.

Eravur Police, who located the body from a bush along the road, handed over the body to Eravur Hospital Tuesday evening at 4.00 PM.

Police Officier In-Charge (OIC) T. Ratnayake is conducting investigations into the killing.

Savukkady is 3 km from Eravur town, 14 km north of Batticaloa.
